ICE AGE: COLLISION COURSE

(Cartoon sequel)

Joyce and I both love the prehistoric squirrel, Scrat, and his endless pursuit of the acorn, which in the latest sequel, takes him to outer space.

The story line that includes all of the familiar “Ice Age” animals is another matter. Joyce thought it was cute. I was bored stiff.

The voice of Ray Romano continues to make the wooly mammoth unique, but his concern over his daughter getting married and moving away dominates and dulls the movie. There’s an asteroid about to destroy Earth, and he’s worried about the wedding?

The animals are searching for a way to divert the asteroid and save the planet. This involves moving giant crystals into a volcano, which, like the rest of the movie, makes little sense and is sure to confuse the kids in the audience.

You’ll still enjoy the sloth, the tiger and the colorful flying dinosaurs, plus the antics of Scrat, but couldn’t the writers have been a bit more imaginative in their storytelling?

Rated PG, with nothing to worry about except a muddled plot line.
