Historical Society fundraiser a success

Posted

To the Editor:

I am an active volunteer and on the board of directors of the Johnston Historical Society Recently, I was asked to set up a fundraiser through GoFundMe (www.gofundme.com/johnston-historical-society) to repair and replace the fence which surrounds the property of the JHS Museum and meeting room.

This has been an amazing success due to many kind donors and also due to Pete Fontaine writing a story in last week’s edition of the Johnston Sun Rise titled: Historical Society announces Operation Fence Me In, which included our recent guest speaker, Roberta Mudge Humble, Professor of the Community College of Rhode Island and mentioning our fundraiser.

Recently, I received a check in the mail in the amount of  $1,000.00 from a past Johnston resident who understands the importance of history and preservation, whom wishes to remain anonymous, Wow, isn’t that just great!

I am primarily sending you this letter to thank Pete Fontaine a long time writer for the Johnston Sun Rise, for all the wonderful articles and help he has offered to the JHS over the years. Kudos to him and his great writing abilities!

Without Pete Fontaine’s support and interest in history and preservation, and the many Johnstonites who read the Sun Rise, the JHS would not be able to attain its goals over the years. Our main goal is to educate the next generation to the importance of history and preservation.

The Johnston Historical Society and Museum, located at 101 Putnam Pike, meets every last Wednesday of each month which is accompanied by a guest speaker. All are welcome to attend free of charge and enjoy a fabulous Johnston Museum, as well as listening to a guest speaker on local history. Those whom enjoy our meeting are also welcome to become a member of the JHS for $20 per year for a single membership and $30.00 for a family membership.

Board of Director of the JHS
