Headed for an economic train wreck

Posted

To the Editor:

This letter concerns the appeal of Donald Trump in this election cycle. The Donald speaks truth to power. And that is what makes him so exciting to watch and follow. He has exhibited a total disdain for the powers that be and the status quo, and for good reason. America is headed for a fiscal and economic disaster in the not too distant future.

When America ships all of its jobs overseas, we are giving away our wealth. To paraphrase Donald Trump, “we are giving away billions of dollars in business in some very bad deals.” No greater truth was ever spoken when he makes this statement. America is losing billions of dollars worth of good paying jobs, in return for billions of dollars in debt. This is not a virtuous cycle.

America in the not too distant future faces the possibility of a quadruple dip recession, with each dip deeper than the last. This is not the old twentieth century version of a recession. With all the debt that has been accumulating in recent decades, in the future no country in the world will want to lend us any more money, to bail us out. That is why each dip in the recession will be deeper than the last dip. Of course this is all speculation, but the very real and frightening prospect still remains.

After this “quadruple dip” recession America will emerge in an economic crisis so severe it may force us to re-think our very ideas about democracy and our classic model of capitalism. Dictators in the style of Napoleon, Mussolini or Stalin might arise to fill the vacuum of leadership. This is one of the reasons Trump is so popular. He has great foresight as to what the future might hold. And wants to stop a train wreck before it happens.

One final thought, at the local level. Richard Corrente, currently running for mayor is another person who speaks truth to power. He speaks out against the over spending and over taxing City of Warwick. Stay tuned, the future is going to be interesting.

    Dear Kevin,

Thank you for your kind and supportive words. I do have one thing in common with Mr. Trump. I speak the truth with little or no "filter". Right is right. Wrong is wrong, and now 16 years of annual tax increases is 16 years of wrong, especially at a time of economic recession here in Warwick. In the 2009 time frame homeowners in Warwick experienced huge (30 to 40%) losses in the equity of their homes. (check yours at "Zillow.com"). At the same time our Mayor decided to choke us with massive tax increases that were, in some cases, larger than the equity decreases. In other words, our values plummeted as our taxes skyrocketed. The end result is that in the last 10 years 5,800 taxpayers and 4,666 businesses have left Warwick. I have a plan to bring them back. Kevin, you can help. Tell everyone to visit my website "www.correntemayorwarwick.com" and please visit me in person at my campaign headquarters at 1,609 Warwick Ave. right next to Daves in Hoxie. I'm looking forward to shaking your hand Kevin and again, thanks for the sincere comments.

    Enjoy Spring.

To accomplish his solutions to the problems facing the United States, will Trump work with the Legislative and Judicial branches of the United States government in regular order according to the Constitution of the United States of America? He has never said that he would rely on the Constitution to accomplish his goals. Trump is acting like a dictator. He says, “I will do this and I will do that…” Trump never explains exactly how he would work with Congress to accomplish his goals. Now he is saying “If you try to stop me there will b riots…” Trump has said that it is OK for his fans to attack opposition groups at his campaign events and now he is suggesting that his fans could possibly riot if Trump does not get his way. Trump wants to do away with NATO which has kept the peace in Europe for over 70 years. The United States needs a president who will show leadership and bring people together to solve problems. In addition, Trump is not self funding his campaign. He is lending his campaign these funds. When you lend someone money, you expect to be paid back. Trump is also receiving millions of dollars of other private donations to his campaign. Trump has never said that he would self fund his presidential campaign. Trump is well acquainted with the power brokers with deep pockets who will come to his aid when he needs campaign funds.

    Rick,

You speak the truth with no filer? When have you spoken? Budget hearings - Silent. I have yet to hear you make an argument. Last week on the DPW theft issue - silent. You are cozied up with these ineffective individuals Travis, Wilkinson, etc.. who are mindless cronies. It is getting pathetic.

If you think Donald Trump speaks truth, i've got a bridge to sell you.

The man's businesses include goods made overseas because like most american corporations, he's too greedy to want to pay american workers a living wage.

Even his campaign hats reading "make america great again" are made in China. Bernie Sanders' hats are made in america.

The guy is a typical sleezeball politician telling people what they want to hear to get elected while doing the opposite.
