HIT MAN: AGENT 47

If you ever told us that we would get a kick out of a remake of a violent action movie based on a video game, we would surely laugh at you. Instead, we laughed throughout this ridiculous, mindless parody (at least we saw it as a parody. We hope they weren’t serious).

Rupert Friend stars as 47, the ultimate killing machine programmed with no emotions to kill on demand. Hannah Ware stars as Katia, a young woman haunted by vague memories of her past who is looking for someone but not sure of who and why.

Their paths cross as they eventually team up in an exciting chase movie with many twists and turns, leaving us guessing as to who are the good guys and who are the bad guys.

Then there’s the mysterious John Smith, who appears to be protecting Katia from Agent 47.

The body count is astronomical as anyone who gets in the way is violently gunned down, run down, tossed off buildings or disposed of in a dozen different ways.

Does Katia bring out any feelings in the programmed hit man?

Who is she looking for and why are people looking to kill her?

The chase continues through Singapore and other exotic cities, featuring some of the wildest architecture, including a unique arboretum. We eventually learn what is going on and why in a clever conclusion.

Action fans should have fun with this one. Those of us who wouldn’t be caught dead watching this genre will have a few laughs (intentional and unintentional). Any hit man who can say with a straight face, “I am what I need to be” can’t be all bad.

Rated R with extreme violence.
