Grammy winner Lisa Fischer and her band Grand Baton to perform at Park Theatre

Considered one of the finest and most successful contemporary vocalists of her generation, Grammy-winner Lisa Fischer has enjoyed a robust musical career for more than three decades. Now exploring new, uncharted territory with her new band, Grand Baton, Fischer will bring her unmistakable sound and stage presence to the Park Theatre on Saturday, April 4. Tickets are on sale now.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to a family of music lovers who encouraged her singing, Lisa began performing under the stage name Xena at the age of 25, recording the electro classic “On the Upside” in 1983. From here, Fischer’s illustrious career began to take shape as she provided backing vocals for some of music’s biggest artists, including Luther Vandross, Billy Ocean, Chaka Khan and Roberta Flack. By 1989, Fischer landed her biggest break, touring with the Rolling Stones as a backup vocalist and becoming a staple that has joined the group for each of their tours since. She even shares lead vocals on their tracks “Monkey Man” and “Gimme Shelter.”

Now staking claim to an impressive resume and ever-expanding body of work, Fischer released her debut solo album, “So Intense,” in 1991. Her lead single, “How Can I Ease the Pain,” soared to number one on the R&B charts, winning her first Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in an unusual tie with the legendary Patti LaBelle. The album went on to spawn three additional Top 20 R&B hits, peaking at #5 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and #100 on the Billboard 200 chart. During this time, Fischer also provided the stirring vocals on the ballad, “Colors of Love,” which was featured on the soundtrack album for the movie “Made in America.”

As her career continued – a combination of solo performances and her love of being a backing singer – Fischer has collaborated with major artists such as Aretha Franklin, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Tina Turner, Lou Reed, Dionne Warwick, Dolly Parton, Bobby McFerrin and dozens more.

More recently, Fischer joined the Nine Inch Nails as a backup vocalist on their Tension 2013 tour. She is also one of the main artists featured in the Oscar-winning documentary film “20 Feet from Stardom,” which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim. Currently featured on Netflix, the documentary highlights often unheralded minority backup singers by archiving the histories of artists like Merry Clayton and Darlene Love. Watch a short video highlighting the depth of Fischer’s talents in the words of some of her most famous collaborators, including Sting and Mick Jagger.

Lisa Fischer & Grand Baton will take the stage at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 4. Tickets are $35 and $45 and are available by calling 467-PARK or online at www.ParkTheatreRI.com.

The Park Theatre is located at 848 Park Avenue, Cranston. Free parking is available for all shows.
