Former Johnston High School standout John Gesualdi competed in the 93rd Rhode Island Junior Amateur championship last week, failing to qualify into the match play portion of the event. Gesualdi fired a 15-over par 85 at East Providence’s Metacomet Country Club, four shots off the pace of the top 16. He struggled to a 46 on the front nine before righting the ship with a 39 on the back, but it wasn’t quite enough to advance him. Metacomet’s Patrick Welch won the tournament with a 7 and 6 victory over Will Hall in the championship round.
