Father’s Day bake sale support cancer research

The proof of just how popular Lori Boffi’s holiday bake sales have become surfaced in many ways over the weekend.

Saturday morning around 10 a.m., Gail Meehen and Cathy Torres walked into Boffi’s Card$mart Store at 1507 Atwood Ave. in Town Hall Plaza carrying empty cardboard boxes.

For the next few minutes, Meehan and Torres selected many of the sweets that were displayed on a special table and handed them to Boffi and her mother Ann Storti, who were only too happy to fill the boxes with the homemade goodies they made for the weekend’s Father’s Day Bake Sale.

“I just love my loyal customers,” Boffi said. “These two ladies are an example of why we keep holding these bake sales.”

Meehen and Torres are also shining examples of just how much respect and love people have developed for Boffi, who in addition to having a well-stocked gift and card shop ranks as one of Rhode Island’s top fundraisers in the fight against cancer.

Proceeds from the Father’s Day Bake Sale will be donated to the Oncology Research Group at Brown University.

“It’s a wonderful thing, what Lori continues to do in her personal crusade to fight cancer,” said Torres, who lives and Cranston and was once Boffi’s boss in a different business. “We love supporting her efforts. After all, each and every item here today has been made fresh, and they taste great, too.”

Although Boffi didn’t announce when her next bake sale would be held, she did say Card$mart now has summer hours and will be closed on Sundays. The store will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed for vacation from July 2-11.
