FANTASTIC FOUR

(Not so fantastic Marvel superheroes story)

If you care at all about the origins of Marvel Comic’s superheroes Ben Grimm, Sue and Johnny Storm, and Reed Richards, who becomes a rubberman, then you may be interested in this slow moving, often dull Marvel Comics movie.

The movie centers on Richards (Miles Teller), who starts building his teleporter while in grammar school, along with his buddy, Ben (Jamie Bell). Seven years pass and Reed is hired by the Baxter Foundation to perfect his Quantum Gate, joining with the director’s adopted daughter (Kate Mara), her brother Johnny (Michael B. Jordan) and Victor von Doom (Toby Kebbell), a genius with no social skills. The plan is that these independent souls work together to “discover a new universe.”

When they succeed in going to another dimension, their bodies change and they become superheroes. The nasty government officials want to use them for killing machines, leading finally to some action scenes. After saving the world, they form a team and become “The Fantastic Four.” Their final words are “Let’s get the hell out of here.” I did, but not before joining Marvel fans to sit through the endless credits, waiting for the patented final scene which never comes. Rated PG-13, with violence and minor profanity.
