Eco-Depot, National Grid to host dehumidifier turn-in event Oct. 22

Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (RIRRC) and National Gird invite Rhode Island residents to recycle old, functional dehumidifiers at Johnston’s upcoming Eco-Depot collection on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 8 a.m. to noon at RIRRC, located at 65 Shun Pike in Johnston.

This special event is available to National Grid customers only and coincides with RIRRC’s household hazardous waste collection. To help reduce time spent in line, appointments should be made in advance for household hazardous waste. Appointments are not required for dehumidifier turn-in.

Residents who participate in Saturday’s turn-in event will receive a $30 recycling incentive rebate, a $30 mail-in rebate towards a new energy-efficient dehumidifier, and National Grid will cover the cost of recycling. Residents must have ID for proof of residency and must complete a rebate form to receive the rebates. Turn-in is limited to two units per Rhode Island household.

“Resource Recovery is proud to partner with National Grid to increase energy efficiency in our state,” said Joe Rotella, special waste manager for Resource Recovery. “We hope residents use this opportunity to decrease their energy outputs and enjoy the cost-saving benefits of an energy efficient home.”

In addition to dehumidifiers, household hazardous waste will be accepted at this Eco-Depot collection.

Created in 2001, the Eco-Depot program is a free service offered by Resource Recovery that provides for the proper handling, packaging, storage, transportation, and disposal of household hazardous waste. Since its inception, Resource Recovery has collected approximately 10.6 million pounds of household hazardous waste and served more than 148,000 Rhode Islanders. With numerous collection dates and events held at several municipal locations throughout the state, Rhode Island’s Eco-Depot program is unlike any other household hazardous waste collection in the country.

This upcoming collection in Johnston is one of 46 Eco-Depot collections RIRRC will provide throughout the state in 2016. To make an appointment for the collection or to view the entire 2016 Eco-Depot schedule, visit ecodepotri.org or call 401-942-1430, ext. 241.
