Recently, Tom and Nic Comella participated in the DMAXX Youth All-American Bowl football game, held in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

These seventh graders, who attend Nicholas A. Ferri middle school, were selected as two of the 70 seventh graders nationally, representing 43 states, to participate in this historic event.

They had been selected when their team, the 12U Panthers, were in Nashua, N.H. in November playing for the New England Regional Championship. Scouts representing Diamond Sport Group recognized them for their play on the field.

During bowl week in South Carolina, the boys participated in

community service, learned about the recruiting process from former NFL players, and most importantly, about educating themselves in emphasizing academic excellence.

A North Carolina state championship coaching staff coached their team.

Tom Comella started at defensive back, while Nic Comella started at outside linebacker.

“It was great to play football with players from around the country,” Tom Comella said.

“The experience is something I will never forget,” Nic Comella said.

Both will now have the opportunity to participate in regional combines to see if they will be invited back next year.

Both players represented the Johnston Youth Football League well and had several tackles each, while defending the pass well during the game.

Even though their team lost, they were all rewarded with medals and are on the nationwide recruiting map for football. Teammate, Timothy Isom, was also invited to participate, but was unable to attend.
