Cherry Hill Manor celebrates Christmas early with card contest

Christmas in August?

That’s what Cherry Hill Manor celebrated – in part – last week thanks to a heart-warming and impressive in-house Christmas Card Contest.

“This event is no doubt special,” Loraine DiLorenzo, Cherry Hill’s assistant director of activities, said. “It’s our annual Christmas Card Contest and part of an art contest we hold exclusively for our residents.”

In short, the annual Cherry Hill Manor Christmas Card Contest is an event that offers residents an opportunity to show off their artistic and creative talents with a chance to win a nifty cash prize.

“Our first-place winner received a check for $250,” said DiLorenzo, who like other members of the activities department takes tremendous pride in providing and conducting many fun-filled events for residents. “Our second-place winner got $100 and third-place finisher took home $50.”

Moreover, Pat Hogan – whose winter scene Christmas card cover was rated extraordinary and featured a skater on a lake in front of a house that was decorated for the holidays – will now be entered in the divisional contest that makes her eligible to win the $300 first prize.

“Those [regional] winners also get an exclusive honor,” DiLorenzo went on. “They have their card reproduced for the use of Christmas cards for Life Care Centers of America.”

Life Care Centers is the parent company of Cherry Hill Manor.

In addition to Hogan, Gloria Camusu took home second place in the contest, while third place went to Rosalie Mele.

“All three of this year’s winners are very active in our facility and attend a variety of events,” said Lorenzo, who assisted the residents during the project. “They also tell us they especially enjoy the arts and crafts events. They also tell us this is a special way for them to express creativity through the work they accomplish.”
