Dinner at the White House
The Marian J. Mohr Library will have an evening performance titled "Dinner at the White House" on June 27 from 6:45-9 p.m. While this program introduces the First Annual Adult Summer Reading Program, the date coincides nicely with Independence Day celebrations on the following Wednesday, July 4. Actress Judy Bernstein, who recently appeared at the opening of the George H.W. Bush (1989-1993) Presidential Library, will take on the persona of James West, head usher for the Kennedy Administration. Her one-woman show will entertain with descriptions of the White House customs and foods that various presidents from George Washington to present day and back again to Abraham Lincoln enjoyed, along with many bits of humor. Several staff members have researched recipes related to presidents and will be preparing treats and snacks from the cookbooks for refreshments at the end of the program. Stacey Anter, librarian at the RI School for the Deaf, will be signing the Bernstein performance as an intro to her four weeks of free classes in American sign language held at the library. Free tickets are available at the library for "Dinner at the White House.”
