‘Be Your Own Hero’

Posted

Brown Avenue students were encouraged to “Be Your Own Hero” during this year’s Reading Week, held April 6-10 at the Johnston elementary school. Kicking off the week of reading-related activities, students were challenged to pick up a book during a “Turn Off Your TV Night Contest,” which earned them an entry into a bookstore gift card raffle. Guest readers visited the classrooms throughout the week, and students from different grade levels also had a chance to read to each other on “Buddy Reading” Day. To conclude the weeklong event, the children were encouraged to bring words to life in a “Vocabulary Parade,” which wound its way through the halls of the school.
