It was a 'hoot'
Audubon visitor is a ‘hoot’ with Over the Rainbow students
Odie is a screech owl being cared for by the Audubon Society. He is 8 years old, and was a big hit with students at Over the Rainbow on Plainfield Street.

The Audubon Society of Rhode Island landed at Over the Rainbow Learning Center last Thursday for an educational presentation about owls. AmeriCorps volunteer Ali Shaw, who conducts outreach efforts on behalf of Audubon, brought with her 8-year-old Odie, a screech owl who lives in captivity now after being hit by a car. After reading a story called “Owl Babies,” Shaw shared owl feathers and talons with the children and explained how the birds hunt, before bringing out Odie who, despite his small size, is fully-grown.
