Arrogant foolishness

Posted

To the Editor:

The United States and China on September 3 formally joined the Paris climate deal, with U.S. President Barack Obama hailing the accord as the “moment we finally decided to save our planet.” The president flew to China on Air Force One, some 7,000 miles, burning five gallons of jet fuel for every mile or 35,000 gallons of fuel, while emitting 21.1 pounds of CO2 per gallon, or 370 tons of carbon dioxide one way. Double these numbers for round trip and double these for the Air Force One decoy plane that flies at the same time. So which is worse, the arrogant foolishness that comes out of the president’s mouth or the emissions from Air Force One?

And this hubris is not attributed to just Democrats, but includes the Republicans also. President George W. Bush said famously on Sept 16, 2001, “We will rid the world of evil-doers,” and on Oct. 4, 2001, “This is not a war between our world and their world. It is a war to save the world,” to mirror President Obama. There must be something about climbing on board Air Force One with all the salutes and fanfare that goes to the head of these puny men because they become as God and imagine that they have dominion over the earth and over their own totally corrupt nature.
