After loss, Bonniedale Farms continues mission to assist struggling pet owners

A local effort designed to provide support for struggling homeowners is continuing on, despite a recent loss.

“She loved animals very much,” said Dan MacKenzie of Bonniedale Farm in North Scituate of his partner, Joanne Lawrence, who recently passed away. “It was her passion …I promised her that I would dedicate myself to continue in her name.”

For 15 years, MacKenzie and Lawrence have provided free dog and cat food to owners experiencing tough times. The hope is to provide some relief to seniors, veterans, those who have lost jobs, and other members of the community in need – and to allow them to keep and care for pets that play a significant role in their lives.

The year-round program draws people from across the region, MacKenzie said.

“We’ve literally saved thousands of animals,” he said.

Those wishing to donate or in need of pet food can contact MacKenzie at 401-574-6056. The mailing address for the farm is 1097 Chopmist Hill Road, North Scituate, RI 02857, while the physical address is 1056 Danielson Pike in North Scituate.

MacKenzie asked that visitors call before making the trip.
