Johnston police arrested 21-year-old Elijah Hardy, 21, of 677 Killingly St., on Wednesday and charged him with domestic strangulation and domestic disorderly conduct after he allegedly attacked his 17-year-old girlfriend on Tuesday.

Police Maj. Frank Levesque said the man’s girlfriend, with whom he has a child, tracked him down to a Putnam Street address around 4 p.m. to confront him about an alleged affair he was having with another woman. Levesque said the confrontation escalated to an assault during which the man allegedly strangled her.

Levesque said Johnston police were summoned to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, where the girl told them about the attack. Police arrested Hardy on Wednesday. He was arraigned in District Court later that day, and was released on $5,000 surety bail with a no-contact order.

Court records show that Hardy pleaded no contest to a domestic disorderly charge in Johnston on July 6, 2012.

A charge of domestic assault was dismissed at that time, and he was given a year’s probation on the disorderly charge and ordered to get domestic abuse counseling.
