I am sorry but you respect what you earn. A 18-22 yr old will take great care of a vehicle and cell phone if they have to pay for it out of their own funds. When parents pay for it they do not care. When taxpayers pay for their education they are really not going to care. Do we really need a bunch of high school extenders who do not want to go out into the real world to be taking classes at CCRI just so they do not have to get a real job? Why should a kid whose parent earns $500,000 a year get the same benefit as a kid whose parents earn $50,000 a year? The kid who needs to work to pay for his education will value it more then the kid who gets it handed to him in a silver spoon.

I know there are those who say many kids who can not afford to go to college would be able to go. But we need kids who do not need to go to college, those that are carpenters, electricians, plumbers, builders, workers who really work, machinist etc. You do not need to know American Literature to build a house.

Then there are those who say some of these kids can not afford to rack up so much debt to pay for college. First thing you need to learn in life is that you do not buy a $800,000 Bentley car if you will only earn $50,000 a year. Those who go to college and come out with $250,000 in loans and then 1, can not get a job, 2 get a job that was not what they went to college for or 3 get a job that will not cover their college debt are the ones who should not be going to college. Common sense is something you are born with and can not learn.
